Move is an innovative app that offers access to a wide variety of fitness, sports, and wellness activities nationwide, all under one subscription. With access to over 1,800 fitness centers, spas, studios, and gyms across the country, users can choose the activities that suit them—whether it's a neighborhood Pilates class, a functional workout, or a tennis match at a country club. Users select a personalized credit plan and receive a set amount of credits each month according to their chosen plan.

The Problem

Initially, the search functionality in the Move app was limited, only allowing users to search by location name or view the map. This made it difficult for users to find workout locations if they didn’t know the names of the places. As a result, the user experience was restricted, and a significant improvement to the search mechanism was needed to help users locate the activities they were looking for.

The Solution

I developed an advanced search feature that allows users to find locations based on specific categories, such as workout types, locations with parking, locations with locker rooms, activity times, and even the number of credits required for each activity. Additionally, when navigating to the search tab, I included an open search bar along with a row of favorite locations, based on user testing insights showing that most users tend to return to 2-4 regular spots.

I relied on market analysis, including an understanding of user needs in fitness and lifestyle apps. I examined similar platforms and identified the need for a simple yet advanced search function that enables users to find the right activity or location without knowing the exact name or manually searching the map.

Conclusions from Market Research

From the market research, I understood the importance of offering advanced, targeted search options and creating a platform that delivers a smooth, personalized user experience. The solution I implemented includes category-based search, favorite locations, and recurring bookings to streamline the user experience.
